After breakfast at your hotel, start the day by exploring the ancient city of Amman. Begin with a visit to the Amman Citadel, perched on Jebel Al Qala’a, the highest hill in Amman at about 850 meters above sea level. Known as the site of ancient Rabbath-Ammon, this historic location has been continuously inhabited since the Bronze Age. Surrounded by a 1,700-meter-long wall, which has been reconstructed in various eras, the Citadel’s highlights include the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace, each offering fascinating insights into the city’s rich past.

Next, visit the beautifully restored Roman Theater, a stunning relic of Roman Philadelphia and a major highlight of Amman. Set into the hillside, this grand theater reflects Amman’s significance during Roman times.

Following your time in Amman, head north to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities in the world. This site, known as Jordan’s most captivating Roman landmark, is filled with ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples, and two magnificent theaters that hint at its importance as a thriving imperial center.

Continue to Ajloun Castle, a historic fortress built in the 12th century by one of Saladin’s generals, ‘Izz ad-Din Usama bin Munqidh, to protect the region against Crusader incursions. Situated on Mt. ‘Auf at 1,250 meters, the castle commands panoramic views of the Jordan Valley and served as a key defensive point against Crusader attacks, making it a strategic counterpoint to the Crusader Belvoir Fortress across the Jordan River.

After the tour, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Amman, and the rest of the day is free for you to relax or explore the city at your own pace.

Day 8: Amman — Madaba — Mount Nebo — Petra

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for the charming town of Madaba, famous for its stunning collection of Byzantine-era mosaics. The most renowned of these mosaics is the Madaba Map on the floor of St. George’s Church, a vibrant and intricate map of the Holy Land dating back to the 6th century. While the map is the town’s centerpiece, you’ll also find other impressive mosaics throughout Madaba, many of which are even more complete and vividly colorful.

Next, journey to Mount Nebo, the revered site where the Prophet Moses is believed to have gazed upon the Promised Land before his death. Tradition holds that Moses died here at the age of 120 and was buried nearby, though the exact location remains uncertain. At the summit of Mount Nebo, you can take in breathtaking views across the Jordan Valley, stretching toward the Dead Sea and, on clear days, even to Jericho and Jerusalem.

Day 9: Petra — Dead Sea

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and set out for a memorable visit to Petra, the ancient “Rose City” carved from sandstone cliffs by the Nabataeans in the 3rd century BC. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Petra is renowned for its stunning architecture, with palaces, temples, tombs, and storerooms all meticulously carved into the vibrant red stone. The approach to Petra is through the legendary Siq, a 1.2-kilometer-long narrow gorge flanked by towering rock walls. As you walk through this winding passage, you’ll catch your first glimpses of The Treasury (Al Khazneh), Petra’s most iconic sight. Carved from iron-rich sandstone, this masterpiece was originally constructed as a tomb and later became shrouded in legend as a supposed hiding place for treasure. With its Greek-style columns, alcoves, and intricate masonry, the Treasury is a stunning example of ancient craftsmanship.

After exploring Petra’s breathtaking sites, you’ll journey to the Dead Sea, situated at 431 meters below sea level, making it the lowest point on Earth. Here, the deep blue waters are so dense with minerals that you can float effortlessly—a truly unique experience. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, where you can relax by the water, soak up the therapeutic mineral-rich mud, or take in the views over the serene sea.
