Pergamon Day Tour Starting from Izmir

Your tour begins with a pickup from your hotel in Izmir city center, Izmir Airport, Izmir Port, or Izmir Bus Terminal. After a scenic 3-hour drive, you’ll arrive at the ancient city of Pergamon.

Pergamon Acropolis: Perched high above the plains, the Acropolis of Pergamon offers breathtaking panoramic views. You will explore the remains of the Great Library, once a rival to the famed Library of Alexandria, as well as the palaces of the kings and the Temple of Trajan. Don’t miss the Altar of Zeus, whose ruins still remain, and the steep hillside theater that once seated up to 10,000 people. Pergamon is also notable as the birthplace of parchment paper.

After exploring the Acropolis, you’ll enjoy a lunch break at a local restaurant, where you’ll have the opportunity to savor traditional Turkish dishes and relax before the afternoon portion of the tour.

Asclepion: After lunch, you’ll visit the Asclepion, one of the earliest medical centers of the ancient world. Galen, one of history’s most renowned physicians, practiced here, treating patients with methods that were groundbreaking for their time.

Note: The drive from Izmir to Pergamon takes approximately 3 hours each way. You will arrive in Pergamon around noon, and the tour will last about 3 to 4 hours, including the lunch break. Following your time at Pergamon, you’ll begin the return journey to Izmir, which will also take around 3 hours.
