  • Anzak Koyu Beach Cove in Eceabat, Turkey

Anzac Cove

Anzac Cove is a small cove on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. It was the site of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I. The campaign was fought by the British and French, with support from the ANZACs, against the Ottoman Empire. The landing at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915 was disastrous for the Allies, with the troops being pinned down on the beach by Ottoman fire. The campaign was ultimately a failure, with the Allies retreating in early 1916. Anzac Cove is now a popular tourist destination and is commemorated each year on Anzac Day (25 April).
