House of the Virgin Mary (Meryem Ana Evi)

Sultaniye, Meryem Ana Yolu, 35920 Selçuk, İzmir, Türkiye

Located on Mount Koressos near the ancient ruins of Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary (Meryem Ana Evi) is a revered pilgrimage site for both Christians and Muslims. Discovered in the 19th century following the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich, this modest stone structure is believed to be the final residence of Mary, the mother of Jesus, where she was brought by Saint John the Apostle. The site exudes a tranquil and spiritual atmosphere, situated amidst lush greenery. Visitors can explore the restored house, which serves as a chapel, and visit the “Wishing Wall,” where pilgrims tie scraps of fabric representing their prayers. A fountain of holy water, believed by many to possess healing properties, flows nearby. The shrine has been visited by several Popes, solidifying its status as a significant sanctuary of peace and religious history.
