Detailed Itinerary
Make your own way to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) for your international flight to Amman, Jordan. Round-trip international airfare from New York to Amman is included in this private tour package.
We recommend arriving at the airport approximately 3 to 4 hours before departure to allow ample time for airline check-in, baggage drop-off, passport control, and security procedures. Once on board, settle in for your overnight flight to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where an exciting journey through ancient history, dramatic landscapes, and Arabian hospitality awaits.
Use the flight time to rest and prepare for your arrival in the Middle East. Overnight on board.
Welcome to Jordan! Upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, your private driver will greet you at the arrivals hall and assist with your transfer to your hotel at the Dead Sea (approximately 1 hour drive).
Sitting at over 400 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth and one of the most remarkable natural wonders in the world. Its mineral-rich waters and therapeutic mud have attracted visitors for thousands of years, from biblical figures to Roman emperors.
After check-in, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take a refreshing float in the famously buoyant waters, indulge in a spa treatment at the hotel, or simply relax by the pool and watch the sun set over the Judean hills in the distance. Overnight at the Dead Sea.

Around midday, savor lunch at one of the hotel’s restaurants overlooking the sea (own account). In the afternoon, you may wish to enjoy a wellness treatment at the spa, lounge by the infinity pool, or simply read a book under a beachside cabana. After breakfast, check out from your hotel and depart with your private guide toward Petra along the historic King’s Highway. Your first stop is Mount Nebo, the reputed burial site of the prophet Moses. From its summit, take in sweeping views over the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and on a clear day, the distant hills of Jerusalem.
Continue to Madaba, known as the City of Mosaics. Visit Saint George’s Church to see the remarkable 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land, the oldest surviving cartographic depiction of the region. Stop at Moses Springs and a local mosaic workshop, where artisans continue this ancient craft using techniques passed down through generations.
After lunch at a local restaurant (own account), drive south to Shobak Castle, a remote Crusader fortress perched on a rocky hilltop east of the Arabah Valley. Explore its weathered walls and underground passageways before continuing on to Petra. Arrive in the early evening and check in to your hotel. Overnight in Petra.

After breakfast, around 8:30 AM, meet your private guide for a full-day exploration of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Carved by the Nabateans into rose-red sandstone cliffs in the 3rd century BC, Petra remains one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites on the planet.
Begin your visit by walking through the Siq, a dramatic 1.2-kilometer narrow gorge framed by towering 80-meter cliffs. As you emerge from the canyon, the first glimpse of the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh) — with its intricately carved facade — is a moment you’ll never forget.
Beyond the Treasury, your guide will lead you through the ancient city to discover the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, the Roman Theater carved into the mountainside, the Colonnaded Street, and the Great Temple. Adventurous travelers may wish to climb the 800 steps to the Monastery (Ad Deir) for spectacular views (optional).
Enjoy lunch at a restaurant inside the site (own account), followed by free time to explore at your own pace before returning to your hotel. Overnight in Petra.

After breakfast, visit Little Petra (Siq al-Barid), a smaller but equally fascinating Nabatean site located just north of Petra. Here you’ll see temples, tombs, water cisterns carved directly into the rock, and rare surviving fragments of Nabatean frescoes — believed to have served as a caravan stop along the ancient spice and silk routes.
Continue south to Wadi Rum, the legendary Valley of the Moon. This UNESCO-protected desert of wind-carved sandstone mountains, vast pastel-colored dunes, and ancient riverbeds inspired T.E. Lawrence’s writings and served as the cinematic backdrop for Lawrence of Arabia, The Martian, and Dune.
Upon arrival, transfer to a 4×4 vehicle for a 2-hour desert excursion led by local Bedouin guides. Explore towering rock bridges, ancient petroglyphs, red sand dunes, and the iconic Seven Pillars of Wisdom. As the sun sets over the desert, transfer to your traditional Bedouin-style camp.
This evening, enjoy a traditional zarb dinner — meat and vegetables slow-cooked underground — followed by stargazing under one of the clearest night skies in the world. Overnight in a Wadi Rum desert camp.

Wake up to a desert sunrise over the cliffs of Wadi Rum. After breakfast at the camp, depart with your private guide and drive north along the scenic King’s Highway toward Amman.
En route, stop at Kerak Castle, one of the largest and most famous Crusader castles in the Levant. Dating back to the 12th century, this imposing fortress played a strategic role in conflicts between Crusaders and the armies of Saladin. Tour its stone-vaulted halls, dungeons, and underground passageways while your guide brings to life the dramatic history of medieval warfare in the region.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Kerak (own account) before continuing your scenic drive north. The route passes dramatic wadis, traditional villages, and rolling hills, offering glimpses of authentic rural Jordanian life along the way.
Arrive in Amman in the late afternoon and check in to your hotel. The evening is free to explore the lively neighborhood of Rainbow Street or enjoy dinner at a local restaurant (own account). Overnight in Amman.

After breakfast, around 9:00 AM, meet your private guide for a half-day tour of Amman, often called the White City for the pale limestone used in much of its architecture. One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Amman blends layers of Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad, and modern history.
Begin at the Roman Amphitheater, a magnificent 6,000-seat theater carved into the hillside in the 2nd century AD and still remarkably well preserved. Continue to the Citadel (Jabal al-Qal’a), perched on the highest hill in the city. Here you’ll explore the ruins of the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace, and a Byzantine church, while enjoying panoramic views over downtown Amman.
Around 1:00 PM, return to your hotel. The afternoon is free at leisure — perhaps wander through the bustling souks of downtown, sample fresh kunafa at the famous Habibah sweet shop, or stroll along Rainbow Street with its boutique cafes and craft shops. Enjoy a farewell dinner on your own at one of Amman’s excellent local restaurants. Overnight in Amman.

Important Information
- A Jordan visa is required for most nationalities and can typically be obtained on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport. The Jordan Pass (purchased online before arrival) waives the visa fee and includes entry to Petra and many other sites — we highly recommend it.
- Petra involves significant walking on uneven terrain, with approximately 4-6 km of walking on the standard route. Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are essential. Optional horse, donkey, or camel rides are available inside the site at additional cost.
- Accommodations at Wadi Rum are traditional Bedouin-style desert camps. While comfortable, facilities are more basic than standard hotels. Expect shared or private bathrooms depending on the camp and limited electricity hours.
- When visiting religious sites such as Mount Nebo and Saint George's Church in Madaba, modest dress is required — shoulders and knees should be covered for both men and women.
- Jordan's climate varies significantly by season and altitude. Summers (June-August) can be very hot, especially at Petra and Wadi Rum, while winters (December-February) can be cold, particularly in the desert at night. Pack layers accordingly.
- 4×4 vehicles in Wadi Rum are operated by local Bedouin community members, and vehicle conditions may vary. This system supports the local economy and is part of the authentic desert experience.
- The Dead Sea waters are extremely salty — avoid getting water in your eyes or mouth, do not shave 24 hours before swimming, and limit floating time to 15-20 minutes per session.
- Jordan uses Type B, C, D, F, G, and J electrical outlets (230V). Travelers from the US should bring a universal adapter.
FAQs
Yes, round-trip international airfare from New York’s JFK Airport to Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport is included in the tour package. Domestic connecting flights within the USA, seat selection, and excess baggage fees are not included.
Most nationalities, including US citizens, can obtain a visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport. We strongly recommend purchasing the Jordan Pass online before your trip, as it waives the visa fee (for stays of 3+ nights) and includes entry to Petra and over 40 other attractions, providing significant savings.
Exploring Petra involves substantial walking on uneven sandstone and gravel paths. The standard route from the entrance through the Siq to the Treasury and main sites is approximately 4 km round-trip. Optional excursions to the Monastery require an additional 800 steps. Horse, donkey, and camel rides are available inside the site for those who prefer not to walk.
Wadi Rum camps are traditional Bedouin-style tents with comfortable beds, blankets, and either private or shared bathroom facilities depending on the specific camp. Electricity is typically available only during certain hours via solar power or generators. The experience is authentic and memorable — not luxury, but comfortable and atmospheric.
The most comfortable months are March-May and September-November, when temperatures are mild and skies clear. Summer (June-August) is hot, especially in Petra and Wadi Rum, while winter (December-February) can be cold with possible rain or snow at higher elevations.
Jordan is one of the most stable and welcoming countries in the Middle East and is widely regarded as safe for tourism. Jordanians are known for their warm hospitality, and the country has a long history of welcoming international visitors. Your private guide and driver will be with you throughout.
Absolutely — this is what makes the Dead Sea so famous! The extreme salt concentration (about 10 times saltier than the ocean) makes the water so buoyant that you cannot sink. However, avoid getting water in your eyes or mouth, and don’t shave for 24 hours before swimming, as the salt will sting any small cuts.
Jordan’s currency is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). Major hotels, restaurants, and shops in tourist areas accept credit cards, but we recommend carrying some cash for tips, small purchases, souvenirs in markets, and meals not included in the tour. ATMs are widely available in cities.
A 30% deposit secures your spots and locks in your price. Our team will contact you about the remaining balance before your tour begins — no surprise charges.

By Madison H.(Tucson, USA)May 8, 2026 Smooth Jordan trip from New YorkI booked the 9-day Jordan tour with One Nation Travel and flew from New York. As a solo woman, I was a little nervous, but the airport transfer was waiting and our guide checked in on everyone. Petra was the big moment for me, but I also loved sharing meals with the small group and making friends along the way. I felt safe, independent, and really glad I went.Date of Experience: May 08, 2026
