Uçhisar Castle with ancient cave homes carved into the rock, overlooking Cappadocia’s valleys under a clear sky.

Uchisar Castle

Uçhisar Castle, the tallest natural structure in Cappadocia, rises prominently above the region’s fairy chimneys and valleys. Carved from volcanic tuff, the castle dates back to Roman or Byzantine times and once served as a defensive stronghold. Its interior is a labyrinth of rooms and tunnels, many of which are no longer accessible. Climbing to the summit via approximately 100 steps rewards visitors with sweeping views of Göreme, Pigeon Valley, and Mount Erciyes, making it a favored spot for watching the sunset over the surreal landscape.
