The final day is the longest road day. After leaving the dunes, you travel through Erfoud and the Todra Gorge area, then continue across southern Morocco toward Marrakech. Expect a trip with a clear build: arrival and desert overnight, a full day exploring the area around Merzouga, then a long cross-country transfer to Marrakech. It suits you if you want to include the Sahara in a short time frame and are comfortable with significant driving on the last day.

Errachidia Arrival – Merzouga Desert Camp

On arrival at Errachidia Airport, you will be met and transferred toward Merzouga. The route follows the broad corridor of the Ziz Valley, where date palms and small settlements break up the dry terrain. This is a long drive, so it is best to use the first hours to settle in, ask questions about the next two days, and keep your camera close for the changing road views.

You continue south toward the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. As the paved road gives way to sand and open desert, your transfer takes you to your desert camp. After check-in, welcome tea is served and you have time to rest, walk a short distance from camp, or simply adjust to the quieter setting before dinner.

Day 2 :

Erg Chebbi Dunes, Khamlia and Camel Ride

After breakfast, around 8:30 am, you will be picked up from your desert camp. Begin with a 4×4 route around Erg Chebbi, Morocco’s best-known dune field, where the road alternates between firm sand, tracks, and open plains. You will see how quickly the dunes give way to stony desert and scattered desert settlements around Merzouga.

Continue to Khamlia, a village associated with Gnawa music, a style built around hand percussion, chant, and the guembri, a three-stringed bass lute. You then travel to Rissani, a trading town where the market is most active on market days. Lunch is not included and can be arranged during the route. Depending on road conditions and timing, you may also pass through Hassilabiad before returning to the dunes.

Later, leave the vehicle behind for a camel ride across the sand toward camp. The pace is slow and the ride is part of the route, not a quick photo stop, so wear secure footwear and keep essentials easy to reach. Dinner is served at camp, followed by time around the fire. After breakfast, you leave the camp by camel and return to Merzouga, where your road transfer begins. There is time for a brief stop to see this craft before continuing west.

The route reaches Todra Gorge, a narrow limestone canyon near Tinghir. You can walk beside the riverbed and look up at the rock walls before continuing through the Dades Valley. Lunch is not included and is arranged en route. This is the longest travel day of the trip, with several changes in terrain as desert roads give way to valleys, mountain routes, and towns.

Later, pass through Ouarzazate before continuing to Marrakech. Arrival is expected in the evening, depending on road conditions and the length of stops during the day. Your transfer concludes on arrival in Marrakech, where the tour services end.
