Explore Southeastern Turkey: Göbeklitepe, Nemrut & Şanlıurfa

The tours in this collection focus on the archaeological sites around Şanlıurfa and Adıyaman. Some spend a single day in the region; others connect it with Cappadocia and western Turkey. Start with the places you most want to see, then compare the travel days, overnight stops and included services.

Göbeklitepe: monumental archaeology near Şanlıurfa

Göbeklitepe, also written Göbekli Tepe, is known for its monumental stone enclosures and carved T-shaped pillars. UNESCO dates these Neolithic structures to approximately 9600–8200 BCE. A guided visit helps you understand the animal reliefs, the arrangement of the enclosures and why the site matters to the study of early communities. All four itineraries listed here include a visit. For the shortest option, choose the Göbeklitepe day tour from Istanbul. Read more about the site in the UNESCO World Heritage listing.

Mount Nemrut: the stone heads of Commagene

The monumental statues on Mount Nemrut belong to the tomb-sanctuary of King Antiochus I of Commagene. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a different experience from Göbeklitepe: a mountain setting, exposed terraces and an uphill approach on foot. Choose the 4-day combination or the 6-day route to include it. A sunset visit depends on the selected itinerary, flight schedule, season and weather; sunrise or sunset is not guaranteed across this collection.

Make time for Şanlıurfa beyond the archaeological site

On the standalone day tour and the 4- and 6-day packages, the Şanlıurfa visits also include the Archaeology Museum, Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum and Balıklıgöl, known as the Pool of Abraham. Seeing the museum collections alongside Göbeklitepe gives the day a broader historical context. The 18-day Grand Turkey itinerary has its own Göbeklitepe excursion; its Day 16 program does not list the same museum and city visits. Check the chosen itinerary rather than assuming every route includes identical stops.

Flights, hotel nights and the pace of the journey

The 4- and 6-day trips begin with a flight from Istanbul to Adıyaman, visit Mount Nemrut and stay overnight in Şanlıurfa. After Göbeklitepe and the city visits, they continue by road to Cappadocia. These opening days involve early starts and substantial travel, so they suit travelers comfortable with a busy schedule. The 4-day package has one night in Şanlıurfa and two in Cappadocia. The 6-day package adds two nights in Kuşadası or Selçuk before returning to Istanbul after Pamukkale. The standalone day trip uses return flights between Istanbul and Şanlıurfa and has no overnight accommodation.

When to travel and what to bring

Plan around Mount Nemrut if the summit is a priority. Snow can restrict road access in the colder months, while the lower plains can be very hot in summer. Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism also notes that the summit can be cold at sunrise and sunset, even in summer. Bring shoes with good grip, a warm layer, water and sun protection. Ask us to check the intended travel date and mountain access before finalizing a Nemrut itinerary. If uneven ground, steps or long drives are a concern, mention this when requesting your trip.

Compare what your tour price includes

Use the tour cards for current starting prices in USD, then open the itinerary for its booking options and full inclusions. The listed routes include the domestic flights specified in their programs and English-speaking guidance during scheduled sightseeing; multi-day packages include the stated hotel nights. Meals, entrance fees and optional activities must be checked for the individual trip. For example, the 6-day package includes five hotel breakfasts and two lunches, rather than every meal. International flights are separate. A Cappadocia balloon flight is optional, costs extra and depends on weather and operating approval.

Choose your route and request a trip plan

Choose the Göbeklitepe day trip if you want to return to your Istanbul hotel that evening. Select four days to combine Nemrut, Göbeklitepe and Cappadocia, or six days to continue to Ephesus and Pamukkale. For a longer first visit to Turkey, review the 18-day Grand Turkey itinerary with its Göbeklitepe excursion. Send us your preferred dates, number of travelers and must-see places, and mention whether Mount Nemrut is essential. We can check the route and available arrangements for your dates so you can review the details before booking.

Frequently Asked Questions About Southeastern Turkey

Which Southeastern Turkey tour should I choose?

Choose the Göbeklitepe day tour for a single day from Istanbul. The 4-day package combines Mount Nemrut, Göbeklitepe and Cappadocia; the 6-day itinerary adds Ephesus and Pamukkale. The 18-day Grand Turkey tour includes a Göbeklitepe excursion as part of a wider journey, without Mount Nemrut.

Can I visit Göbeklitepe from Istanbul in one day?

Yes. The listed day tour includes return domestic flights between Istanbul and Şanlıurfa, airport transfers, guided sightseeing and lunch. It also visits Şanlıurfa museums and Balıklıgöl. Allow approximately 18 hours for the full trip, with exact timings depending on the confirmed flights.

Which tours include both Mount Nemrut and Göbeklitepe?

The 4-day Mount Nemrut, Göbekli Tepe and Cappadocia tour and the 6-day Nemrut, Göbeklitepe, Cappadocia, Ephesus and Pamukkale tour include both sites. The standalone Göbeklitepe day tour and the 18-day Grand Turkey tour do not include Mount Nemrut.

Are flights and hotels included?

The listed tours include the domestic flights specified in their itineraries. The 4-day package includes 3 hotel nights, the 6-day package 5 nights, and the 18-day itinerary 17 nights. The Göbeklitepe day tour has no overnight stay. International flights are not included; review each tour for its exact services.

How do the Nemrut tours connect with Cappadocia?

The 4- and 6-day packages fly from Istanbul to Adıyaman, visit Mount Nemrut and stay in Şanlıurfa. On the second day they visit Göbeklitepe and Şanlıurfa before continuing to Cappadocia by road. This is a long travel day rather than a short local transfer.

Can I visit Mount Nemrut in winter?

Summit access can be restricted by snow and road conditions in the colder months. Ask us to check your intended dates before booking a trip that depends on reaching Mount Nemrut. Access to the mountain should be checked separately from a Göbeklitepe visit.

Is a sunrise or sunset visit to Mount Nemrut guaranteed?

No. The timing depends on the selected itinerary, flight schedule, season, weather and access conditions. Check the individual tour details and ask about your planned dates if visiting at a particular time of day is important to you.

How much walking is involved?

Expect walking around archaeological sites and museums. Mount Nemrut involves an uphill approach on foot and uneven surfaces, and the multi-day combinations include long road journeys. Share any mobility needs before booking so the suitability of your chosen itinerary can be checked.

Is a Cappadocia hot air balloon flight included?

No. On itineraries that visit Cappadocia, ballooning is an optional activity at an additional cost. A flight depends on availability, suitable weather and operating approval. The Göbeklitepe day tour does not visit Cappadocia.

How do I check prices and availability for my dates?

Open the tour that fits your route to review its current price, itinerary and booking options. For help choosing, use Plan My Trip and include your preferred dates, traveler numbers and whether you want both Nemrut and Göbeklitepe. Available arrangements and the trip details can then be checked for your request.
