Istanbul • Cappadocia • Pamukkale
In 5 days, you can combine Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Pamukkale, but this is a fast-paced highlights route. It includes a domestic flight and a roughly 6–7 hour Cappadocia-to-Pamukkale transfer. Travelers who prefer a more relaxed trip should keep the main route to Istanbul and Cappadocia or add extra days.
Arrive at Istanbul Airport and transfer to Sultanahmet. Hit the ground running with Istanbul's unmissable trio: Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace. In the afternoon, dive into the labyrinthine Grand Bazaar for ceramics, lanterns, and Turkish tea. End with dinner near the Hippodrome as the mosques light up.
Start with a morning Bosphorus cruise past Ottoman palaces and the Maiden's Tower. Browse the Spice Market for Turkish delight and saffron. Climb Galata Tower for panoramic views of the Golden Horn. In the afternoon, fly to Kayseri or Nevsehir (1h 15min) and transfer to your cave hotel in Goreme. Enjoy a pottery kebab dinner.
If booked and cleared to fly, take an optional pre-dawn balloon flight before visiting the Goreme Open Air Museum with its Byzantine cave churches. Continue to Derinkuyu Underground City, then climb Uchisar Castle for panoramic views. Evening free for shopping in Goreme or an optional Turkish night show.
Morning visit to Pasabag (Monks Valley) for the most dramatic fairy chimneys. Optional stop in Avanos for a pottery workshop. Travel to Pamukkale; most guided tours drive via Konya in approximately 6-7 hours, while a flight via Istanbul depends on the dated connection. Check in when you arrive and consider a sunset visit only if your actual arrival time and site hours allow it.
Enter Pamukkale early morning to walk the brilliant white travertine terraces barefoot where permitted. Explore Hierapolis, including the ancient theater and necropolis. Check the official listing before the visit if you hope to use the separately ticketed Antique Pool; access and operating status can change. After lunch, transfer to Denizli airport or continue overland.
Cobblestone streets in Istanbul, rocky terrain in Cappadocia, and travertine walking in Pamukkale
Useful for mosque visits in Istanbul; follow each venue's posted dress rules
Strong sun in Cappadocia and especially Pamukkale's reflective white terraces
Hot air balloon sunrise, Pamukkale terraces — battery-draining photo opportunities
Cappadocia mornings can be cold (especially for 5 AM balloon rides)
For confirmed-open thermal hotel pools; verify Antique Pool access separately before relying on it

Book the balloon for your first Cappadocia morning so the following morning can serve as a weather backup. Confirm the licensed operator's live price and written inclusions.
Visit the travertines early morning or late afternoon. Midday sun makes the white terraces blindingly bright and very hot. Sunset turns the pools pink and gold.
For 5 days covering 3 destinations, a guided tour handles logistics (flights, transfers, hotels) and saves precious time. Independent travelers need to plan transport carefully.
These route-matched options may differ by one day. Check each duration badge and current tour page for exact transfers, hotels, guided services and exclusions.

5 days can cover Istanbul, Cappadocia and Pamukkale as a fast highlights route. For a calmer pace, add days to these same stops instead of adding more destinations. Adding the coast, Ephesus or Gallipoli requires a longer, redesigned route.
Use the planning ranges above as a starting point and reprice the itinerary for your dates. Cave-hotel category, domestic flights, private transfers and an optional balloon flight create the largest differences. International flights are excluded.
Most guided tours drive (6-7 hours via Konya with stops). Independent travelers can fly via Istanbul (time-consuming for 1 day) or take a bus to Denizli (8-10 hours overnight). A guided tour is the most efficient option for this leg.
Visitors may walk barefoot in designated travertine sections, subject to on-site rules. The Antique Pool is separately ticketed and its operating status can change, so verify the official listing before planning a swim. Thermal hotel pools are a separate alternative.
Prioritize Istanbul's Old City, one focused Cappadocia sightseeing day and Pamukkale's travertines and Hierapolis. Treat the balloon as an optional, weather-dependent addition rather than a guaranteed part of the route.
