Begin at the magnificent Hagia Sophia, the iconic 6th-century structure that has served as a cathedral, mosque, museum, and mosque once again. Begin with a shared shuttle transfer to the pier at Eminönü, where you’ll first explore the aromatic Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Bazaar). After breakfast at your hotel, around 8:30 AM your guide will lead the group east along the Mediterranean coast for a full day of ancient ruins and natural beauty. The first stop is Perge Ancient City, one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the Pamphylian region. Walk through the massive Roman gate, the colonnaded street, and the well-preserved stadium that once seated 12,000 spectators. Continue to Aspendos Ancient Theater, widely considered the best-preserved Roman theater in the world. Your guide will explain how this 2nd-century structure still hosts performances today thanks to its remarkable acoustics. Join fellow travelers for lunch at a local restaurant around 12:30 PM.
In the afternoon, drive to Side, a charming coastal town where Greco-Roman ruins meet sandy beaches. After breakfast and check-out from your hotel in Pamukkale, your guide will gather the group around 10:30 AM for a full guided tour of this extraordinary natural and archaeological site. Begin at the Pamukkale Travertines, where brilliant white calcium terraces cascade down the hillside, shaped over millennia by mineral-rich thermal waters. Walk barefoot across the warm, shallow pools and take in the sweeping views of the valley below.
From the terraces, continue uphill into the ruins of Hierapolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded as a Greco-Roman spa city in the 2nd century BC. After breakfast and check-out from your hotel in Pamukkale, your guide will gather the group around 7:30 AM for the scenic drive to the Ephesus region (approximately 3 hours). Upon arrival, begin your exploration of the Ephesus Ancient City, one of the most remarkably preserved archaeological sites in the Mediterranean world.
Walk along Curetes Street, the ancient city’s grand boulevard, where your guide will lead the group past ornate façades and marble-paved walkways. Admire the Temple of Hadrian with its intricate mythological reliefs, then stand before the iconic Library of Celsus, whose towering two-story façade remains one of antiquity’s most photographed monuments. Continue to the Great Theater, a 25,000-seat amphitheater carved into the hillside, and pause at the elegant Trajan Fountain.
