Whichever one you land at, we meet you after you clear passport control and collect your bags, and we handle the transfer to your hotel. Traffic can be slow in the late afternoon, so the drive often takes longer than a map suggests.

The rest of the day is yours. If you still have energy, walk over to Sultanahmet Square for a first look at the domes and minarets you will see up close tomorrow, or head to the Galata Bridge, where anglers line the upper deck and fish restaurants fill the level underneath. For a louder evening, Istiklal Street runs downhill from Taksim Square and stays busy late.

Day 2 :

Istanbul Old City Tour – From Hagia Sophia to the Grand Bazaar

After breakfast, around 8:30 am, you will be picked up from your hotel. The day starts on the Hippodrome, the Roman chariot track that is now a public square holding an Egyptian obelisk and a fountain gifted by a German emperor. From there you step into the Blue Mosque, named for the tiles that line its upper walls, then cross to Hagia Sophia, built as a Byzantine cathedral in the sixth century, later converted to a mosque, and used as one again today.

You break for lunch nearby before Topkapi Palace, the seat of the Ottoman sultans for close to four centuries. Its courtyards open one into the next, and the terrace at the far end looks over the point where the Bosphorus meets the Sea of Marmara. The last stop is the covered Grand Bazaar, where losing your sense of direction is part of the experience.

Day 3 :

Bosphorus Cruise and the Asian Side

After breakfast, around 8:30 am, you will be picked up from your hotel. The first stop is the Spice Bazaar at Eminonu, where the stalls sell dried fruit, tea, and sacks of pepper alongside the tourist tins. Then you board a boat for a cruise on the Bosphorus, the strait that splits the city between two continents.

From the water you pass Dolmabahce Palace, the nineteenth century residence the sultans moved into after Topkapi, the small waterside Ortakoy Mosque sitting under the first suspension bridge, rows of wooden mansions, and Rumeli Fortress, which Mehmed II built to control the strait before the 1453 siege. Lunch is included during the tour. In the afternoon you cross to the Asian side and go up Camlica Hill, the highest viewpoint in the city, where the two bridges and the Golden Horn line up in one direction.

Last Morning in the City – Airport Transfer

Breakfast is at the hotel, and check out is usually late morning. Reception will hold your bags if your flight is later in the day, so you are not carrying them around. We confirm your pickup time the evening before and set it against your departure from Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport, with traffic accounted for.

If you have hours to spare, a few things that work without planning: coffee in Karakoy and the lanes climbing toward Galata Tower, a ferry across to Kadikoy for the fish and produce market, or one last pass through Sultanahmet and the Grand Bazaar for something you walked past earlier in the week. Keep an eye on the time, because the drive to either airport crosses the whole city.

Pack spices, tea, or sweets in your carry on if they are fragile, and allow for the security check at the terminal entrance, which happens before you reach the check in desks. Your driver sees you off at departures, and the tour ends there.
